happy new year

I hope everybody out there had a wonderful Christmas. We have had a brilliant holiday with lots of swimming, staying with wonderful friends and just enjoying time together.

Its a very big year for us with our beautiful Miss E starting big school. She is super excited which makes me really happy, but of course there is that side of sadness as its a new era. And to be perfectly honest, i will really miss her! She is one fabulous little person and i really enjoy her company. It will be nice to have some one on one time with Master J though. I am not sure how he will go, he has always followed her around and been her little shadow. Perhaps i now have my own little shadow.

Also we are building a house! Hopefully that will begin in February. Something we have wanted to do for a long time. We have designed the house from scratch ourselves with some wonderful help from a friend. So far it looks great on paper, hopefully it will translate in reality just as well! AND I have my own sewing room!!!! Yes, my own sewing room. I cant wait.

So as you can see we have a big year ahead of us, but a very exciting one!

Below are a few of my creations from the last few months. My favourites!

keeping busy

Its “rest time” in our house right now. Master J is sleeping, Miss E is reading and i thought i would take a few minutes to update you on a few things i have been up to.

As always, we have been very busy with lovely walks, building with LEGO (their new favourite thing) and numerous crafty activities.

The other day, we decided to make a squishy aquarium. The idea was from Teach Preschool, a blog i highly recommend you check out if you have little people in your life. The idea was to fill snap lock bags with hair gel, a little food colouring and something like a toy fish to “swim” around. Now you think i could find one??? The closest i had was a toy turtle, but he was much too large. So we settled on using sea creature themed stickers on the outside!

The equipment

The finished product! Not a great picture, but a fun activity that has provided much amusement and squishing! We also put in blue glitter, which sparkled very nicely in the sunlight. The kiddies really loved squishing it around to mix all of the gel, colour and glitter.

And another little favourite activity was making a little potted garden. We have had to keep it out of a certain spotty bandits reach so its out the front :) Zoe has a record of, lets say, re-aranging my chosen position of plants.

We planted things that the kids like and would actually eat. Three varieties of tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries and soon to be planted silverbeet (my trusty sneak it in every dish vegetable).

I must not forget to show you some of my monkeys i have made

And Frankie the frog too!

Half way through some lovely christmas themed stock which will head out to Cultiver.

faith…..

Good morning! And what a beautiful morning here in Brisbane. Already its been a very busy morning with building cities with LEGO, creating a fairy kingdom with felt and taking some pictures…..

Below is a few butterflies that are set to head off to Cultiver this week, amongst some other things. But the winged creature now has a name……..Faith! After a friends beautiful litle girl, and what a perfect name it is :)

Now to finish the deers………

what we do

Its official, Miss E no longer sleeps during the day! Many friends have commented they couldnt believe she has for so long. But she has always been such a fantastic sleeper, hence how i began sewing in the first place. But now i no longer have my two hours to get my “Me time”, i have a measly half an hour or so when she decides she has laid down long enough and rested. At first i was a tad put out by this, as their rest time was my sewing time.  My daily schedule is in a revamp! Sewing is now a weekend activity, and afternoons are mummy and  daughter time while Master J gets his beauty sleep. And its LOVELY!! Especially when i think next year Miss E will be at school five days a week…………gasping breaths……..i am embracing my afternoons and enjoying every minute.

So rather then showing some of my crafty activities, i thought i would show you some bubba and yaya craftiness! How proud i am that my sweet babies love to make and create just like their mummy!

This is our hungry catterpillar. She has 21 sections, one for her lovely head Miss E drew, and the other 20 have numbers on them. The food also has numbers on them, up to 20, and the kids “feed” the hungry fellow with their hand drawn snacks by matching and counting :)

Miss E’s Magical Rainbow Mystery Bus made from the top of an egg carton. Master J’s went missing at the time of this photo shoot. I am sure one day i will find his stashing place and it will contain many marvellous items!

Quite possibly one of my favourite activities we have done together. I got the idea from a website, I think it was called “Teach Preschool” Again, an egg carton, with a list of things we could collect from a morning walk around our parkland. Then the kiddies fill the sections with what they find from the list.  The kids were thrilled with this idea and we will do it for sure again!

Sooooo, this is what we have been doing while we havent been sewing :)

a darling butterfly….

Just another quick post to preview my new toy.

Currently she has no name……….. so i am taking suggestions :)

recent softies

Just a few things i have made of late……

A new little mini doll

Some sweet little deer

And a little sock monkey.

These amongst others, made their way to Cultiver yesterday all ready for the grand opening tomorrow!!!!!!

retro inspired

Well there is nothing like a trip to the fabric shop to get the old sewing mojo going. Oh lord, its like going to the show as a child. The colours are overwhelming in their brightness, the textures are so wonderful under your fingertips. Oh i really really love fabric.

I just had to share what i bought the other day!

This has to be my favourite book in the entire world right now. And boy do i want a dress like that on the cover.

Seeing this fabric probably doesnt excite you the way it does me…….. Oh so many possibilities! And of course the kids chose a pack each. Master J chose the whales and Miss E chose the pack on the right :)

Mmmmmmmmm fabric…………………………….

A request was made a couple of months back (it has taken me this long to update) for a set of Owlivias, but a much larger version. They turned out devine and very very cuddly. They almost didnt make it to their new home.

And a crafty project by my kiddies. First they painted them, glued some pics of their cloice on……………………..

and then proudly displayed them on their bookcases!

More snaps to come tomorrow :) It is going to take awhile to play catch up!

Eeck, has it really been that long?? Oh dear it really has!
I am a terrible blogger! I really must set myself time to do the technology thing!
Soooooooo what have i been doing? Heaps! But i wont bore you with the details :) Mainly getting some orders out, some things for me and working on some new designs. Not doing the markets has been a welcome slow of pace. I seem to be really enjoying my creating now, rather then feeling rushed and stressed. I will do markets again inthe future, when my babies are off at school perhaps.
But my BIG news is that bubbayaya is now stocked at a gorgeous store in Ipswich!!!! Cultiver is just what the Top of Town was calling out for. A beautiful, eco, handmade gift store filled with local artisians work. If you live in the area or even if you dont, You MUST check it out. I am extremelly excited to be stocked there.
I am looking at revamping my blog, so stay tuned for a nice change :) Oh and some pics hopefully tomorrow of some things i have been doing.

Wow, a month since my last post. Now thats just being a very bad blogger. But on a positive note, i would like to think my lack of computer time means i am being a better parent :) Perhaps a little more attentive.

My little crafty project of bubbayaya will be taking a break. Well i guess what i mean is i wont be doing markets for a bit, just casually creating. With Miss E off to school next year, time seems to be moving so fast. I came to the realisation that i needed to take a breath and enjoy lifes simplicity as it is now. Madly sewing each spare moment was getting a tad hectic. I would like to think my upcoming creations will be all the more beautiful for it.

So stay tuned and pop back soon!
